About Phillis:
Phillis Lewis (She/Her) is the Founder and CEO of Love Doesn’t Hurt, Tennessee’s first nonprofit dedicated to crisis intervention and case management for LGBTQ+ victims of crime. With over 15 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, trauma-informed care, and housing services, Phillis has reached more than 27,000 individuals through education on relationships, grief, trauma, and tenant rights. A Memphis native, she earned her B.A. in Criminal Justice & Criminology from the University of Memphis and previously worked at the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office and Shelby County Government. Phillis is a dedicated advocate and serves on several regional committees, including as Vice-Chair of the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic & Sexual Violence’s Inclusivity Committee and Board Member of the Tennessee Equality Project. She was honored as the 2024 Women of Achievement “Determination” awardee. Through consulting and coalition work, Phillis champions inclusive services that empower survivors to reclaim safety and agency.
